Earlier this week we had a preliminary meeting with contractors interested in building our new elementary schools at Wallace and in Lexington. Gary Schimmel, Facilities Supervisor and Project Manager led the meeting to give the contractors a better understanding about the construction environment of both schools.

Why do that? Because we’re looking to hire a general contractor early so they can work with our architects during the design and construction document development phases. This¬†allows the general contractor to participate as an adviser in the design process and provide input on the availability and cost of suggested materials. In the end this makes for a more solid plan with fewer change orders and less chance of delayed construction.
